On 22 March 2025, the press service of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS) announced that it had tightened control in Zakarpattia region. Additional forces and means have been deployed on the border with Romania and Hungary.
According to the report, border guards will use a wide range of technical means on the most vulnerable sections of the Ukrainian-Romanian and Ukrainian-Hungarian borders. In particular, patrols will involve vehicles and special equipment, unmanned aerial vehicles, manned aircraft, and other specialised means. These measures are aimed at intensifying the fight against illegal activities in the border areas.
The SBGS notes that the deployment of additional forces will allow for more effective preventive measures aimed at preventing state border violations. “This will ensure a timely response to any threats from offenders,” the press service said in an official statement.
The strengthening of control in Zakarpattia is part of the SBGS strategy to improve border security and counter illegal activities such as smuggling and illegal migration. The new measures are expected to significantly reduce the level of violations in the region.
