On the morning of 24 March, a terrorist attack took place at a bus stop near the Tishbi intersection on Route 66, near the city of Yokneam (northern Israel): an armed attacker attacked people waiting for public transport. One Israeli was killed and another is in a serious and unstable condition. The terrorist was killed on the spot by security forces.

According to the police, the attacker first drove his car into a group of people at a bus stop, then attacked a soldier with a knife, seized his service weapon and opened fire on civilians and passing cars.

“The terrorist who opened fire on civilians was immediately neutralised by the police forces that arrived at the scene,” the Israeli police said in an official statement.

The terrorist was neutralised by the MAHAV border police officers who were on their way to train with small arms. They spotted the armed attacker, engaged him in a firefight and eliminated him.

According to preliminary data:

The deceased was a man of about 75 years old who was critically wounded in his car during the shelling.

The wounded man is a young man in his 20s who is in a serious and unstable condition. He was taken to RAMBAM hospital in Haifa.

MADA’s emergency medical service confirmed that despite resuscitation efforts, the elderly man could not be saved – he died of gunshot wounds.

Israeli law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the attack and are checking the attacker’s links to terrorist groups. The terrorist attack near Yokneam was another act of violence against Israeli civilians amid rising tensions in the region.
