On the afternoon of 24 March, Russian troops launched a missile attack on a densely populated residential area in the city of Sumy. According to preliminary data, at least 65 people, including 14 children, were injured in the attack. This was reported by the Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
“According to preliminary data, the enemy launched a rocket attack on a densely populated residential area around 14:00. As of 16:00, there are 65 victims, including 14 children. Apartment blocks and an educational institution were damaged,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
The missile hit an area with residential high-rise buildings and a school. According to local authorities, the children were in a shelter at the time of the strike and are being evacuated.
In addition to the attack on Sumy, Russian troops attacked drones during a rescue operation in the Krasnopilska community, where a hospital was previously targeted. According to local sources, five attacks were recorded on the territory of the medical facility while emergency services were working there.

The Prosecutor’s Office launched a pre-trial investigation into the commission of war crimes under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war).
This strike was yet another proof of Russia’s targeted tactics to attack civilian infrastructure, schools, hospitals and residential areas, despite international norms and the Geneva Conventions.
Local authorities and volunteers are providing assistance to the victims. Recovery work will begin immediately after the rescue operation is completed. More information on the number of victims and the extent of the damage is expected.
