Spring is on hold: Arctic front engulfs Eastern Europe, cold snap and snow expected in Ukraine

Europe was shaken by an unexpected Arctic cyclone, which brought with it a sharp cold snap, rain and, in some places, snow. According to The Guardian, temperatures in many Eastern European countries, including Romania, Poland, Germany, Italy and Ukraine, have dropped by 5-10°C below normal. Frost and snowfall are forecast in the highlands.

Meteorologists attribute this phenomenon to high atmospheric pressure over the North Sea, which has caused a powerful flow of cold air from the Arctic. The cold wave will last at least until the end of the week and is likely to affect southern Europe, including Italy and Greece.

According to weather forecasters, unstable weather is expected in Ukraine in the coming days: frosts at night, cool weather during the day, with occasional rain and sleet. It will be especially cold in the west and north of the country, where temperatures can drop to -2°C at night. In the Carpathians, there will be heavy precipitation and possible blizzards.

Instead, France, Spain and parts of the UK will enjoy warmth: up to +25°C during the day.

Storms and flooding continue in the US, while the west of the country is experiencing a cold snap due to a new high pressure centre. The Canary Islands were hit by the Nuria storm, which brought powerful winds and heavy rainfall.
