Former Israeli Ambassador to the United States Mike Herzog has revealed that the real purpose of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s urgent visit to Washington was the Iranian nuclear project, The Jerusalem Post reports.
“The meeting was organised in a great hurry because the US decided to immediately start negotiations with Iran and inform Israel,” Herzog told Maariv.
Israel, he said, is worried about Washington’s potential concessions, because Iran is capable of obtaining material for a nuclear bomb in less than a week, and has enough enriched uranium for 17 warheads.
Netanyahu insists on the “Libyan option” – the complete dismantling of nuclear infrastructure, which Iran categorically rejects.
Among other topics of the visit:
– Customs war – Israel seeks to reduce US tariffs on its goods;
– Gaza – discussions on an interim hostage agreement;
– Turkey – Ankara’s growing military activity in Syria is causing concern in Israel.
Herzog warns that the window of opportunity for action on Iran is a matter of months, and Trump may pressure Netanyahu to end the war in Gaza.
