US President Donald Trump has called on Russia to take steps to end the full-scale war it has unleashed against Ukraine. He wrote about this on his social network Truth Social on 11 April 2025.

“Russia has to move. Too many people are dying, thousands every week, in a horrible and senseless war,” Trump said. He also reiterated his favourite thesis that Russia would not have launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine if he had remained US president at the time of the escalation.

However, Trump did not specify what actions Moscow should take to end the war, nor did he disclose what measures he plans to take to encourage Russia to do so. His call came amid the ongoing aggression that has claimed thousands of lives and caused widespread destruction in Ukraine.

This statement was one of Trump’s first public reactions to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict after his return to the White House. Experts note that such comments may signal the US administration’s intention to become more actively involved in finding ways to de-escalate the conflict, although the specific action plan remains unknown.
