Yair Netanyahu, the son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, sharply criticised French President Emmanuel Macron for supporting the creation of a Palestinian state, calling for the independence of French territories and an end to Paris’ colonial policy in Africa. This was reported by The Jerusalem Post.
In response to Macron’s post on X, in which the French leader reaffirmed his support for “Israel and a Palestinian state without Hamas,” Yair Netanyahu responded emotionally:
“To hell with it! Yes to the independence of New Caledonia! Yes to the independence of French Polynesia! Yes to the independence of Corsica! Yes to the independence of the Basque Country! Yes to the independence of French Guiana! Stop French neo-imperialism in West Africa!”
Screw you! Yes to independence of New Caledonia! Yes to independence to French Polynesia! Yes to independence of Corsica! Yes to independence of the Basque Country! Yes to independence of French Guinea! Stop the neo imperialism of France in west Africa! https://t.co/Vwa3a8fN2c
Netanyahu Jr’s statement was a harsh response to international efforts to create a Palestinian state, which have been actively supported by Paris in recent years. Especially Macron, who said that France could recognise Palestine by June 2025.
Yair deliberately hit France’s sore spots, mentioning regions with powerful separatist movements:
New Caledonia, which recently experienced unrest over controversial electoral reforms;
The Basque country has long been a hotbed of separatist terror;
West Africa, where France has already been pushed out of Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and other countries.
Palestine, Israel and diplomatic exchanges
Macron emphasised in his post:
“Yes to peace. Yes to Israel’s security. Yes to a Palestinian state without Hamas”.
I’m reading all sorts of things here about our intentions for Gaza.
Here is France’s position—it is clear:
Yes to peace. Yes to Israel’s security. Yes to a Palestinian state without Hamas.
The French president called for the release of hostages, an immediate ceasefire and a two-state solution. However, such statements caused outrage among parts of Israeli society, especially among the right and far right.
