Due to cold snap, sowing campaign in Ukraine lags behind by 200 thousand hectares, but there are no threats to food security – Ministry of Agrarian Policy

The cold snap in April suspended the sowing campaign in Ukraine for about a week, leaving the country 200,000 hectares behind last year. However, this is not critical and does not threaten the country’s food security. This was stated by First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy Taras Vysotsky on television.

“We plan to sow more than 13 million hectares. This delay is not critical. Starting next week, farmers will work around the clock,” he said.

At the same time, fruit crops, in particular apricots and peaches, are at risk, but the impact of the cold will be assessed only in a few weeks.

As for grains and oilseeds, there are currently no threats to either the harvest or the production of flour, bread or meat products, as the growing season has not yet begun.
