Following the horrific rocket attack on Sumy on Palm Sunday, the death toll has risen to 34 people killed and 117 others injured, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said. There are 68 injured in hospitals, eight of them in serious condition and two in very serious condition. One woman died in hospital, according toKordon.Media.
Media reports indicate that the first rocket hit a shelter where a children’s performance was to take place in an hour. The second missile, which fellnearby, was likely equipped with a fragmentation warhead and caused the most casualties. Most of the victims were passengers on a bus coming from the airport.
According to the SES:
- 51 buildings damaged
- 34 cars and a trolleybus destroyed
- 92 emergency openings dismantled, 234 windows temporarily restored
- 55 people received psychological assistance
This strike was one of the most tragic in recent times, causing widespread destruction and dealing a devastating blow to the civilian population.
