The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Major General Andrii Hnatov, met with the students of the Army Corps Leadership Course. The main topic was the reorganisation of the Armed Forces command and control system to meet the new challenges of the war against the Russian Federation.

The major general stressed that the army corps is seen as a key structural element for military operations in modern conditions. It is at this level that operational control and initiative should be concentrated.

“The planned process of manning army corps with servicemen with real combat experience is currently underway. We are strengthening the organisational structure with experienced combat commanders. To win, we need to meet the requirements of the time and the situation on the battlefield. We are doing everything we can to do so,” said Andriy Gnatov.

New approaches to management and logistics

During the course, the commanders worked on the key areas of transformation of the Ukrainian army, in particular:

  • generalisation of combat experience and its further integration into management practice;
  • preparation of new doctrinal documents that meet the conditions of modern warfare;
  • automation of the supply of weapons, equipment, ammunition and other material resources.

The military command emphasises that the effectiveness of the army in a full-scale war depends not only on the number of equipment and personnel, but also on the flexibility of the structure, the ability to make quick decisions and clearly coordinate actions at the corps level.

Betting on combat experience

One of the key elements of the reform is the personnel policy: those with direct experience of fighting on the eastern, southern and northern directions are appointed to command positions. This approach should ensure that the structure of the Armed Forces adapts to real challenges, not theoretical models.

The reform of the army corps was a response to current threats and part of a long-term strategy to build a professional, mobile and technologically advanced new generation army.
