President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone conversation with President of Finland Alexander Stubb, during which he stressed that a just and sustainable peace can only be achieved through further strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities and increasing sanctions pressure on Russia. This was reported by the President’s press service on 16 April.
During the conversation, the presidents discussed the development of the situation on the frontline and agreed on further joint steps. Zelenskyy informed his counterpart about the current state of hostilities and stressed the critical need to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence system.
“A just and sustainable peace is possible only if Ukraine is strongly supported by defence packages and tough pressure on Russia is maintained,” the Ukrainian leader stressed.
The parties also discussed international diplomacy, in particular relations with the United States and the situation around Russia’s rejection of the American proposal for an unconditional ceasefire. Zelenskyy and Stubb agreed on the need to coordinate with partners to counter Russian aggression.
The President of Ukraine also expressed gratitude to Finland for its firm political support, strategic advice and readiness to actively join the efforts of the international community to bring victory and restore peace on fair terms.
