On 17 April, the German government published an updated list of military aid for Ukraine, which includes a wide range of weapons, equipment and supplies. The new package will significantly enhance the capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces at the front, particularly in terms of artillery, intelligence and engineering support.
The main items include ammunition for Leopard 2 tanks, three Slovak Zuzana 2 wheeled artillery systems, 27,000 155 mm shells, 1,000 122 mm shells, and six Bergepanzer 2 armoured repair and recovery vehicles.
In addition, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive four WiSENT 1 MC demining vehicles and two additional mine ploughs, which will allow them to expand their efforts to clear explosive hazardous areas.
Unmanned and infantry systems make up a significant part of the aid:
- 150 barrage munitions HF-1
- 10 Sonobot marine drones
- 70 Vector reconnaissance drones
Germany is also donating infantry equipment and special vehicles, including:
- 92 infrared binoculars
- 187 laser rangefinders
- 150 thousand medical tourniquets
- 1.3 thousand sleeping bags
This package is yet another indication of Berlin’s continued support for Ukraine in the face of a full-scale war with Russia. According to the German government, the transfer of aid is carried out in close coordination with international partners to ensure maximum efficiency of defence supplies.
