US President Donald Trump has effectively retracted his previous statements, in which he held Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy responsible for Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. Trump demonstrated this change in rhetoric during a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the White House, as reported by Yevropeiska Pravda.

“I’m not holding Zelenskyy responsible (for the war), but I’m not happy that this war started,” Trump said, adding that the war would never have happened if he had remained president.

At the same time, he reiterated that he was “not happy” with Zelenskyy or “anyone involved in this”. Trump noted that he is now trying to get Vladimir Putin to stop the war, explaining that Russia has a military advantage.

“If you’re smart, you don’t get involved in wars,” Trump said, not forgetting to mention President Joe Biden: “You can blame the man who sat in that seat, Biden, for not knowing what the hell was going on. But I can guarantee you – and everybody agrees – that if I had been president, this war would never have happened.”

Trump concluded his comments by saying: “I don’t blame him,” but clarified that “he hasn’t done the best job” and that he is “not a big fan of him.” However, it remained unclear whether these words were referring to Zelenskyy or Biden.

Just a few days ago, Trump blamed three people at once – Putin, Biden, and Zelenskyy – for the start of the full-scale invasion. Now, his position on the Ukrainian president has become much less straightforward.
