President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signs a decree imposing sanctions on Russian cultural figures and companies involved in the production of missiles for the Russian army.
On Friday, 18 April, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy enacted the decision of the National Security and Defence Council to impose personal sanctions against 20 Russian artists, actors and athletes who publicly supported Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The relevant decree was published on the website of the President’s Office.
Who is on the list
The sanctions affected a number of public figures from Russian show business, theatre, cinema and sports. Among them:
– Nikita Dzhigurda is an actor and singer;
– Yaroslav Dronov (Shaman) is a pop singer and public mouthpiece for pro-Kremlin propaganda;
– Yuri Kuklachev is a trainer;
– Alexander Rosenbaum, Nikolai Rastorguev, and Igor Sukachev are musicians;
– Irina Apeksimova, Vitaly Gogunsky, Oscar Kuchera, Yevgeny Mironov, Alexander Pankratov-Chorny are the actors;
– Sergei Polunin and Nikolai Tsiskaridze are ballet dancers;
– Yegor Konchalovsky is a film director;
– Roman Chumakov (Zhigan) is a rapper;
– Irina Välbe is a skier who actively supports the Kremlin’s policies.
What are the restrictions?
Sanctions include:
– blocking assets;
– restrictions on trading operations;
– a ban on the distribution of their content in the Ukrainian media space;
– deprivation of state awards of Ukraine (if any);
– a ban on entry into the territory of Ukraine.
Russian missile manufacturers are also under sanctions
In addition to media personalities, the decree provides for sanctions against 39 individuals and 60 legal entities involved in the production of weapons for Russia, including missile systems. Some of the companies are registered in China, which may cause a new round of diplomatic tension between Kyiv and Beijing.
