Despite the “Easter truce” declared by the Kremlin, the Russian army significantly intensified shelling and assault operations on the frontline in the morning of 20 April. This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, referring to a report by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi.
According to the President, from 00:00 to 12:00 this morning, 26 assault actions by Russian troops were recorded. The enemy’s main activity is concentrated in the Pokrovske and Siverske directions, where, as Zelensky stressed, intensive use of heavy weapons continues.
“This morning, the Russian army is conducting the most active actions in the Pokrovske and Siverske directions. Russian heavy weapons continue to be used in these and some other parts of the frontline,” the Head of State noted.
Zelenskyy drew special attention to the increased use of kamikaze drones, in particular FPV drones:
“Starting from 10am, we have been recording an increase in shelling and a doubling of the use of kamikaze drones. This is yet another indication that Moscow has no intention of adhering to any ceasefire,” the President added.
As of 10:00 a.m., the “truce” declared by the Kremlin had lasted for 16 hours, but even during the so-called “silence”, Russia continued to conduct hostilities, firing artillery, mortars and using attack drones.
Context:
The day before, the Kremlin announced a unilateral “Easter ceasefire” from the evening of 19 April to midnight on 21 April. Ukraine stated that it was ready to observe a mirror silence if Russia really stopped fighting. Instead, the facts on the battlefield indicate yet another information manipulation by Moscow.
