The United States has expressed its readiness to welcome the extension of the Easter truce between Ukraine and Russia. A spokesman for the US State Department said this in a commentary to Reuters, Ukrinform reports.
“We have seen President Putin’s announcement of a temporary ceasefire to mark Easter. We remain committed to achieving a full and comprehensive ceasefire. As we appreciate the seriousness of their intentions in this case, we would be pleased if the ceasefire could continue beyond Sunday,” the State Department spokesman said.
This is Washington’s first reaction to the Russian initiative, which, according to the Ukrainian side, was more informational than real, as thousands of violations of the “ceasefire” by Russian troops have been recorded.
