At the end of last week, Ukrainian greenhouses started selling cucumbers at 75-125 UAH/kg, which is on average 17% cheaper than a week earlier. The reason is a sharp increase in supply amid warm weather.
This is reported by the analytical platform EastFruit.
“Warm weather has significantly accelerated the ripening of local vegetables. Cucumber harvests in greenhouse farms are increasing rapidly, and producers are forced to reduce selling prices,” analysts say.
Demand is falling, imports are under pressure
Despite the increase in production, demand for cucumbers is declining. In addition, supplies of cheaper imported products from Romania, which usually do not exceed 60 UAH/kg on the Ukrainian market, remain stable.
According to EastFruit, greenhouse cucumbers are currently 15% more expensive on average than in the same period last year, but the downward trend in prices may continue if the market does not stabilise.
