Massive drone attack: Russia fires 54 Shakhtys at Ukraine, air defence destroys 38

On the night of 22 April, Russia launched another large-scale attack on Ukraine using Shahed kamikaze drones and imitation drones. Ukrainian air defence destroyed 38 enemy drones, while another 16 imitators were lost without consequences.

This was reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on its Telegram channel.

“As of 09:00, 38 Shahed-type strike UAVs (as well as other types of drones) have been confirmed downed in the east, north, south and centre of the country,” the statement said.

“16 enemy imitator drones were lost locally (without negative consequences)”.

A blow to Odesa and Kyiv regions

The attack affected facilities in Odesa and Kyiv regions. Details of the damage are still being clarified, but emergency services are working on the ground.

The drones were launched from the territory of Russia – from the cities of Millerovo, Kursk, Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, as well as from the temporarily occupied Crimea.

A new wave of attacks

On the morning of 22 April, the attack continued. From 08:00, a new wave of attack UAVs was recorded from the north, through the Sumy region. An air alert was declared in several regions.

The Ukrainian Air Force urges citizens not to ignore the alarms and to follow the safety rules.
