The Hamas leadership has declared its readiness to agree to a new peace initiative to release Israeli hostages and end hostilities in the Gaza Strip. This was reported by Al Arabiya Al Hadath TV channel, citing a Palestinian source.

What does the offer include

According to the report, the new plan includes:

  • a long-term truce for several years;
  • A full exchange of hostages for an agreed number of Palestinian prisoners;
  • withdrawal of Israeli troops from the enclave.

The proposal reiterates the main demands that Hamas has made in the past, including the creation of conditions for respite, rearmament and maintaining control over the Gaza Strip. Experts warn that similar ceasefires in the past have only strengthened Hamas and postponed the next escalation.

Qatar’s alternative plan

According to the BBC, Qatar has presented its own draft long-term settlement. It provides for:

  • a five-year truce,
  • prisoner exchange,
  • ending the military phase of the conflict,
  • Launching the processes of infrastructure restoration and humanitarian support.

The Qatari plan is aimed not only at ending the violence but also at long-term stabilisation of the situation in the region.

Israel’s position: no concessions to Hamas

Despite the growing pressure from the international community, Israel has not shown any willingness to agree to conditions that would allow Hamas to regroup. Official sources in Tel Aviv emphasise that the priority remains the complete elimination of the Hamas threat and ensuring security for Israeli citizens in the long term.

“Initiatives that allow Hamas to remain strong are unacceptable. Peace is possible only after the complete dismantling of Hamas’ military and political structure,” Israeli officials said.

For now, the future of the negotiations remains uncertain, as does the fate of dozens of Israeli hostages who have been held captive by Hamas for more than six months.
