According to a new poll conducted by the non-governmental Jewish Electorate Institute, nearly three-quarters of American Jews disapprove of Donald Trump’s performance as president of the United States. A poll conducted in mid-April 2025 by the Mellman Group among 800 registered Jewish voters found that 72% of respondents expressed dissatisfaction with his performance, 67% of them strongly.
Although Trump has taken steps against anti-Semitism, including freezing university funding and deporting foreign students, 56% of respondents disapprove of his approach to combating anti-Semitism, while 31% support his actions. Among Orthodox Jews, who make up approximately 10% of the sample, more than 71% approve of his activities, while dissatisfaction prevails among Conservative, Reform and unaffiliated Jews.
The poll also found that 71% of respondents oppose Trump’s executive orders allowing deportation without trial, as well as other domestic policies such as the widespread use of tariffs and the shrinking of the federal government. Among Orthodox Jews, more than 60% support deportations, but their opinions on other policies are divided.
The survey did not include questions about American Jews’ attitudes to Trump’s policy towards US-Israel relations or his actions in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, where Trump facilitated a two-month truce and proposed American administration of Gaza and massive resettlement of its residents.
These results reflect the deep concern of American Jews about the direction in which Donald Trump is taking the country and their opposition to many of his key policies.
