Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir met with four Republican congressmen during the last day of his first official visit to the United States. This was reported by the minister’s office. This was reported by The Jerusalem Post.
Ben-Gvir’s visit to the United States was largely limited to meetings with representatives of right-wing Jewish organisations and communities. He had no official contacts with representatives of the Democratic Party or the current US administration, despite his interest in promoting Donald Trump’s ideas for resolving the situation in Gaza. Earlier, nearly 90 US Democrats had appealed to the Biden administration to ban Ben-Guerin from entering the US because of his radical views.
Ben-Gvir met with such congressmen as Jim Jordan (Ohio), Claudia Tenney (New York), Mike Lawler (New York) and Brian Mast (Florida), but none of them published joint photos on social media. According to the minister’s office, the meetings discussed the Trump Plan for Gaza, the introduction of the death penalty for terrorists in Israel, and the issue of freedom of worship on the Temple Mount.
At the same time, Ben-Gvir’s stay on Capitol Hill was accompanied by protests from the organisations Code Pink and CAIR. The activists accused him of war crimes against Palestinians.
Ben-Gvir plans to return to Israel on Tuesday.
