The People’s Republic of China has declared its readiness to “constructively contribute” to the achievement of genuine peace in Ukraine that takes into account the interests of all parties. This is stated in an official statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China after the visit of the Pope’s representative, Archbishop Paul Gallagher, to China.

The document notes that China has “always consistently advocated peace and dialogue” as the only way to end the war.

In particular, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed that Beijing supports initiatives that can lead to a “quick political solution to the conflict”, but called for not politicising humanitarian issues and not putting pressure on third parties.

The Vatican’s visit to China is part of a broader diplomatic effort to find a peace formula that would be acceptable to both sides of the conflict. At the same time, Wang Yi mentioned the importance of “equal dialogue” between all stakeholders.
