The Ukrainian army has introduced a unique digital system of motivating soldiers, which works on the principle of gamification: for the destruction of Russian soldiers or equipment, points are awarded that can be exchanged for new weapons. This was reported by Politico.
The Army of Drones Bonus initiative allows the military to receive from 6 to 50 points depending on the type of target hit – from a soldier to a missile system. To receive points, soldiers must provide video evidence from drones to the Delta system, which is used to monitor the situation at the front.
“Destroy it, get points, choose the drone you want,” is how Mykhailo Fedorov, Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, described the system’s operation. As part of the Brave 1 Market platform (an analogue of the military’s Amazon), points can be exchanged for modern drones, robotic systems, artificial intelligence and other equipment. The drones are delivered to the frontline within a week.
For example, the Vampire drone, which carries a warhead of up to 15 kg, is worth 43 points. According to Fedorov, Magyar’s Birds has already scored more than 16,000 points, enough for hundreds of drones for various purposes.
The initiative has already covered 90% of drone aviation units. Due to the success of the programme, the government has even been forced to speed up the logistics of supplying drones: “They are being killed so fast that we don’t have time to deliver new ones,” said Fedorov.
It is also important that the system allows real-time tracking of the effectiveness of destroying the enemy and directing equipment to where it is used most effectively.
“This is not just motivation – it is a mechanism that changes the rules of warfare,” the minister concluded.
