Trump proposes to cut NASA’s budget by 24% – key programmes at risk

US President Donald Trump has proposed to cut NASA funding by 24% in the draft federal budget. This was reported by Space.com.

Instead of the planned $28 billion, the space agency is to receive only $21.6 billion. The main reduction concerns the Artemis programme, which was intended to return US astronauts to the Moon by 2026.

“This decision could freeze or significantly delay key research and interplanetary missions,” independent experts say.

The White House’s explanation states that priority is given to domestic economic needs, including border security and reducing the federal deficit.

This caused a sharp reaction in the US scientific community: NASA budget cuts could take the US out of the race for space dominance, where China, India and private companies are active.
