he former US National Security Advisor Mike Volz discussed military scenarios against Iran with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu back in February, which upset Donald Trump. This was reported by The Washington Post
According to sources, Volz tried to push for a tougher policy that did not match Trump’s vision. This included intensive coordination with the Israelis ahead of Netanyahu’s meeting with Trump at the White House.
“He wanted to steer the policy towards military escalation, despite attempts at a diplomatic settlement,” the source quoted the newspaper as saying.
Trump’s displeasure grew after the SignalGate scandal, when Volz accidentally added a journalist to a closed chat room discussing future strikes on Yemen. He was eventually fired and appointed US ambassador to the UN.
Administration officials speculated that Volz was deliberately promoting the idea of a forceful option against Iran, which could have harmed negotiations on the renewal of the nuclear deal.
As a reminder, Israel planned to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities in May, but Trump blocked this initiative because Tehran agreed to negotiations.
