On 2 May, the servicemen of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine carried out a historic military operation – a Russian Su-30 multi-purpose fighter jet was destroyed using a Magura maritime drone. This was reported by the DIU on its official Telegram channel.
The unique attack was carried out by the Group 13 special unit in cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine and the Defence Forces. The strike took place in the waters near the port of Novorossiysk, one of the key hideouts of the remnants of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
The missile, fired from the Magura unmanned offshore platform, hit the target. The Su-30, which is estimated to be worth around $50 million, burst into flames in midair and crashed into the sea. This is the world’s first documented destruction of a combat aircraft by a naval drone.
This success not only demonstrates the innovative capabilities of Ukrainian defence technology, but also seriously undermines the combat capabilities of the occupiers in the south.
