Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has won the national election for the second time in a row, establishing the Labour Party as the governing force amid a rapid decline in right-wing ratings. According to the Telegraph, this was due to a combination of domestic stability, socially-oriented policies and voters’ negative reaction to Donald Trump’s policies in the United States.

Peter Dutton, the leader of the Liberal Party, not only conceded defeat, but also lost his seat in parliament, losing to his opponent in his own constituency for the first time in more than 20 years. The reason for the defeat was, in particular, statements that evoked associations with American “Trumpism”, including attempts to copy the slogan “Make America Great Again”.

During his victory speech in Sydney, Albanese stressed that Australia has its own way:

“We do not look for inspiration across the seas. We have it – in our values and our people.”

The Australian Electoral Commission, having counted 68% of the votes, predicts Labour will win 81 out of 150 seats in the House of Representatives, enough for a stable majority.

Analysts call Albanizi’s victory “historic” and his campaign an example of strategic endurance. Treasury Secretary Jim Chalmers stressed that this is the result of work to improve the welfare of citizens and refusal to copy the US politically.
