Over the past week, Russia has carried out an unprecedented level of attacks on Ukraine – more than 1,180 attack drones, 1,360 guided aerial bombs and 10 missiles of various types. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a Facebook post, emphasising the scale of destruction and civilian casualties.
“All night long, rescuers were extinguishing fires in Kyiv after drone strikes on residential areas. Houses were damaged and cars burned down. There are children and adults injured. An ordinary dormitory in Cherkasy was on fire,” the Head of State noted.
Russians attacked Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, and Kyiv regions with Shahed drones. Overnight, 165 UAVs were launched, most of them Iranian-made. At the same time, massive strikes by Ukrainian aircraft in Donetsk and Sumy regions continue.
“Russia asks for silence on 9 May, but continues to hit peaceful cities every day. This is cynicism of the highest level,” Zelenskyy said.
He stressed that Ukraine is ready for a ceasefire from any day, at least for a month, but it should not be a gesture towards a date, but a real end to the war.
“Silence should be a daily routine, not a holiday decoration. I am grateful to our partners who continue to support and put pressure on Russia,” the President added.
