President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reaffirms Ukraine’s readiness for peace by his presence in Turkey, while Russia has sent a low-level delegation to Antalya for talks. This was stated by British Defence Secretary David Lammy.
He said this before an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Antalya,Ukrinform reports .
“We are here with one single message – to support Ukraine and to ensure a just, lasting and durable peace,” Lammi said.
Zelensky is a signal of peace, Russian delegation is a signal of contempt
The British Defence Secretary stressed that it was the President of Ukraine who demonstrated his readiness for peace by personally arriving in Turkey. At the same time, according to Lammey, NATO countries noted that Moscow sent “low-level representatives” to Turkey, which looks like a demonstration of a lack of interest in real negotiations.
Defence spending is on the rise
Separately, the Minister noted that the UK is fulfilling its commitments to defence spending – at least 2% of GDP – and plans to increase this figure to 2.5% by 2027. If a new parliament is formed, London may increase spending to 3%.
“Today, it is important to reaffirm our commitment to the defence of Europe and to stand together with our U.S. allies in response to geopolitical challenges – particularly in the Indo-Pacific region,” Lummi added.
