Russia is amassing forces on the frontline to launch a new offensive and seize even more territory in Ukraine – up to the approaches to Kyiv. This was reported by CNN, citing two senior US officials with access to intelligence.
According to one official, the Russian command is “seeking to form a large strike force” that is likely to be directed at the eastern regions of Ukraine. Another official added:
“Putin will try to seize any land he can, up to the outskirts of Kyiv. The Russians will act aggressively to grab as much as they can.”
US intelligence warns that Russia is actively regrouping troops and equipment at positions near the front. However, its plans are hampered by Ukrainian drones, minefields and a lack of reserves on both sides.
In Russia itself, particularly in the Kursk region, the situation is tense: The Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to hold their ground. Nevertheless, the Kremlin continues to try to achieve its goals of new territorial gains.
The report also mentions that, despite the losses, Russia has not received significant support in the form of manpower from North Korea. According to the sources, Pyongyang has already lost thousands of soldiers in the fighting and is currently unable to increase its participation.
All of this is happening against the backdrop of diplomatic efforts: the administration of US President Donald Trump is calling for a 30-day ceasefire, but Russia is not showing any willingness to compromise.
It is also noted that Ukraine is experiencing a shortage of manpower, which complicates defence against the backdrop of increasing enemy pressure, particularly in the Vovchansk direction and in Sumy region.
