Canada’s new foreign minister, Anita Anand, has sharply criticised Israel’s policy towards the Gaza Strip, accusing it of using hunger as a political tool. She said this to journalists, commenting on the blocking of food supplies to the enclave, Ukrinform reports .

“We will not allow food to be used as a political tool. This is unacceptable. The Prime Minister has been clear on this,” Anand said.

According to her, more than 50,000 people have died as a result of Israeli aggression, and the delay in humanitarian aid only deepens the tragedy.

“We need to continue to work towards a ceasefire,” she added.

Anand also reaffirmed Canada’s unwavering position on the two-state solution to the conflict – Israel and Palestine. She stressed that this is the only approach that can ensure lasting peace in the region.

The Canadian Foreign Minister’s statement came amid growing international criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza, where fighting continues and civilians face acute shortages of food, water and medicine. Many countries and international organisations are calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.
