Finland has officially agreed to supply Ukraine with heavy ammunition financed by proceeds from frozen Russian assets. This is stated in a press release from the Finnish Ministry of Defence.

The decision was made as part of the EU’s initiative to channel profits from Russian assets to military support for Ukraine. Finland is one of the countries that will implement this mechanism.

“We were able to agree on additional funding to support Ukraine. The products will be purchased from Finnish companies and handed over to the Ukrainian army,” said Finnish Defence Minister Antti Häkkinen.

What we know about the new aid package:

  • The transaction value is EUR 90 million
  • Source of funding – proceeds from frozen assets of the Russian Federation
  • Implementation tool – European Peace Foundation
  • Suppliers – Finnish defence companies
  • The goal is to strengthen Ukraine’s defence and support employment in Finnish industry

“This new package, together with our EUR 660 million national support programme, is an example of how the Finnish defence industry can effectively support Ukraine,” Häkkinen said.

For security reasons, details regarding the content, logistics or delivery schedule are not disclosed.

This decision demonstrates the EU’s readiness to use frozen Russian assets to provide practical assistance to Ukraine. Finland was one of the first countries to implement this instrument, combining political solidarity with support for its own economy.
