Four Canadian diplomats were nearly injured in a shooting incident by the Israeli Defence Forces near Ramallah in the West Bank. As confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada, the incident occurred during the delegation’s visit to the occupied Palestinian territory.
This was announced by Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand on the X platform (formerly Twitter):
“I spoke to the head of our mission in Ramallah. He confirmed that the four staff members were part of a delegation when Israeli soldiers opened fire nearby. Fortunately, all team members were unharmed.”
In response to the situation, Anand instructed that the Israeli ambassador be summoned to the Canadian Foreign Affairs Ministry to formally express the Canadian government’s serious concerns.
“We expect a detailed investigation and full accountability,” the ministry said.
According to the official version of the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), the car with the diplomats deviated from the previously agreed route. The soldiers stopped the vehicle, which led to a tense situation with gunfire in the vicinity.
The incident exacerbates tensions between Canada and Israel amid growing international calls for the protection of civilian and diplomatic missions in the occupied territories.
