As part of a large prisoner exchange in the format of 1000 for 1000, which was agreed upon with the mediation of Turkey, another 307 Ukrainian defenders have returned from Russian captivity. This was announced on Friday, 24 May, by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Telegram.
“Another 307 Ukrainian defenders are at home. Today is the second day of the 1000-for-1000 exchange, which was agreed upon in Turkey. In these two days alone, 697 people have already been returned. We expect to continue tomorrow,” Zelenskyy wrote.
Soldiers of the Armed Forces, the National Guard and the State Border Guard Service returned to Ukraine. “We continue our cooperation with our partners to make this possible,” the Head of State added.
The 1000-for-1000 exchange was the largest since the beginning of 2024 and is the result of Ukraine’s active diplomatic work at the international level.
