In Istanbul, on the eve of the next round of talks between the Ukrainian and Russian delegations, First Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Sergiy Kyslytsya and Advisor to the Head of the Presidential Office Oleksandr Bevz held a strategic meeting with representatives of Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom.
This was reported by the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Georgiy Tykhyi, on Twitter.
“The parties agreed on key positions before today’s meeting with the Russian delegation. The priority is peace initiatives, ceasefire and humanitarian confidence-building measures,” Tychy said.
The meeting in Istanbul, according to experts, is an attempt to consolidate the positions of democratic states before difficult negotiations with the Kremlin. Ukraine retains the initiative, relying on the support of key European capitals.
Negotiating accents:
- Preparing for a possible meeting of state leaders;
- A complete ceasefire as a step towards sustainable peace;
- Introduce humanitarian trust mechanisms, including prisoner exchange.
Against the backdrop of military operations and Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure, the Istanbul meeting could mark a new diplomatic dynamic, with Ukraine dictating the agenda in close coordination with the West.
