The Irish low-cost airline Ryanair has announced the introduction of a new financial penalty for passengers who behave aggressively or inadequately during flights. According to the company, disruptive passengers who are disembarked from a flight will now face a fine of €500.

Ryanair explains this decision by the growing number of incidents with drunk or aggressive passengers, especially against the backdrop of excessive alcohol consumption at airports. The airline emphasises that it is acting in the interests of the comfort of other passengers and crew, as well as for safety reasons.

In January, Ryanair already publicly complained about a similar situation: one of its flights to the Canary Islands was forced to make an emergency landing in Portugal due to a violent passenger. The company then spent more than 15 thousand euros on additional fuel, crew, overnight accommodation for passengers and other expenses – and sued the offender.

In addition, the airline called on the European Union to impose restrictions on the sale of alcohol at airports to prevent such situations.

Ryanair, Europe’s largest airline by passenger traffic, carried more than 200 million people last financial year. It plans to increase this figure to 300 million by 2034.
