Israel launched strikes on Iran on the night of 13 June, declaring it a necessary step to prevent a nuclear threat from Tehran. Iran responded with strikes 17 hours later, after which the parties continued to exchange attacks.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Israel’s strategic goals in this campaign on Tuesday, 17 June, The Times of Israel reports.

“Israel is committed to destroying Iran’s nuclear programme, its ballistic missile capabilities and eliminating the ‘axis of terror’,” Netanyahu said.

According to him, Iran is now calling for negotiations to end Israeli attacks because it wants to preserve the possibility of creating nuclear weapons.

“Israel will do everything necessary to achieve the three goals,” the prime minister stressed, adding that Israel is coordinating its efforts with the United States.
