President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the leaders of the Group of Seven countries supported US President Donald Trump’s peace initiatives aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
He posted this on his Facebook page after the key talks at the G7 summit in Canada.
“The G7 leaders recognised Ukraine’s readiness for an unconditional ceasefire. They agreed that Russia should do the same. All leaders are determined to consider further options for putting pressure on Russia, including new financial sanctions,” Zelenskyy said.
Diplomatic support for peace
This is the first public confirmation that Trump’s initiatives to find a compromise to end the war in Ukraine have received collective approval at the G7 level. Such a consolidated position could create a political basis for further negotiations or negotiation initiatives.
Assistance to Ukraine: defence, budget, recovery
In addition to the topic of peace, Zelenskyy noted that he had held individual meetings with the G7 leaders, as well as with the new NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte. In the spotlight:
- financial support for the Ukrainian defence sector;
- budgetary assistance to ensure stability;
- plans for post-war reconstruction, which are already being developed in cooperation with international donors.
