As of 20 June 2025, Ukraine has already contracted 2.9 billion cubic metres of gas for import. In total, it is planned to pump at least 4.6 billion cubic metres of imported natural gas into underground storage facilities.
Ukraine’s Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko said this during an hour of questions to the government in the Verkhovna Rada, Time Ukraie Israel reports, citing a YouTube broadcast by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak of the Voice faction.
“This year we will import much more gas than in previous periods. The minimum volume of imported gas we plan to pump is 4.6 billion cubic metres. As of today, 2.9 billion cubic metres have already been contracted,” Galushchenko said.
He assured that Ukraine will be provided with the necessary volumes of gas in winter – for household consumers, businesses and electricity generation.
Speaking about the situation in the energy system, the Minister noted that it remains difficult due to constant Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.
According to him, nuclear generation will bear the key load during the next winter. A repair campaign is underway at thermal power plants, which has already helped to restore about 6 GW of capacity.
Galushchenko also said that 2.6 million tonnes of coal have been accumulated in warehouses, and that NPPs have sufficient fuel reserves to last through the heating season.
“As of today, we do not see any restrictions for a stable winter. However, the situation may change if massive attacks on the energy infrastructure resume,” the minister stressed.
