Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog and leading Israeli politicians from the government and the opposition expressed strong support for the US air strike on Iranian nuclear facilities on Sunday night. They called the operation “historic”, “courageous” and “preventing a nuclear arms race in the Middle East”.

President Herzog: This is a moment of triumph for freedom over terror

“In the pages of human history, this is the moment when the principles of freedom, responsibility and security prevailed. The decisive moment in the confrontation between the axis of terror and evil and the axis of hope,” Itzhak Herzog wrote on the X social network.

He thanked the United States and President Donald Trump personally for “a courageous step that serves the security of the entire free world” and expressed hope that this action would bring about the release of the Israeli hostages held in Gaza and contribute to a peaceful future for the region.

The opposition is unanimous: Iran must not have nuclear weapons

Opposition leader Yair Lapid said the night attack was “historic for the entire Middle East”:
“Thank you to President Trump. Thank you to the United States. Nuclear Iran is a threat to the whole world. Tonight, the beginning of a nuclear race in the region was stopped.”

The head of the National Unity Party, Benny Ganz, also expressed his gratitude:
“The historic US strike on Iran has strengthened the security of the world, the Middle East and Israel. We are grateful for America’s decisive leadership and support for Israel at this crucial moment.”

Gantz called on Israelis to be prepared for challenges and to strictly follow the instructions of the Internal Command: “Together we will overcome these days. Together we will win”.

“It was a necessary blow”: the position of the Democratic Party

Democratic Party Chairman Yair Golan stressed the importance of the operation:
“The US attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities was impressive, necessary and justified. A nuclear Iran is unacceptable, and it is good that the United States has made this clear to the world.”

Golan also supported Trump’s call for peace:
“Now is the time for peace – for a comprehensive agreement, the release of hostages, an end to the war, normalisation in the region, and true security for the citizens of Israel.”

He urged citizens to remain vigilant and follow safety instructions: “These rules save lives.”
