The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said that the Ukrainian army will not focus exclusively on defence, but plans to combine it with offensive actions, striking at the enemy and conducting counterattacks where possible.

He said this during a meeting with journalists, Ukrinform reports.

“We will not just stay in a defensive position. This eventually leads to the loss of people and territory. We combine defence with active offensive actions where we see weaknesses in the enemy’s defence,” Syrsky stressed.

He stressed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have already created and are scaling up special assault troops that perform tasks both on the offensive and in areas where it is necessary to restrain the enemy’s advance. In particular, these units were involved in the Kursk operation and are now operating in the most difficult areas of the frontline, including Sumy region.

“We are talking about separate assault units and regiments that were created at the beginning of the Kursk operation. They are currently fighting in virtually all difficult areas,” the Commander-in-Chief noted.

He also announced plans to expand such units in the future:

“It all depends on how we can implement these changes,” added Syrsky.
