Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met in Kyiv with Prime Minister of Latvia Ewika Silina to discuss a new defence assistance package, deepening of strategic partnership and further sanctions against the Russian Federation.
“I am pleased to welcome Prime Minister of Latvia Eika Silina to Kyiv. We had a good and meaningful conversation about our bilateral cooperation. I thanked her for her personal support, for Latvia’s leadership and systematic assistance to Ukraine in the military, political, humanitarian and sanctions spheres,” Denys Shmyhal wrote on Telegram.
The Head of the Ukrainian Government stressed the importance of the stable defence support provided by Latvia as a percentage of its GDP, which makes it a leader among partner countries. According to him, special attention during the meeting was paid to joint initiatives in the field of security and reconstruction, as well as coordination within European and transatlantic structures.
The Latvian prime minister, in turn, stressed that her visit was a gesture of solidarity with Ukraine at one of the most important moments of the struggle for independence. She reiterated Riga’s readiness to continue to provide Kyiv with all the assistance it needs, from military equipment to support in the international arena.
The meeting took place against the backdrop of increased diplomatic activity between Ukraine and its European allies, which demonstrates growing political cohesion in the face of threats from Russia.
