If the United States decides to provide Ukraine with Tomahawk long-range missiles, it will be difficult for the Ukrainian army to use them effectively due to the lack of strategic carriers, such as bombers or warships.
This was stated by the Deputy Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Vadym Skibitskyi in a commentary to The Guardian.
“They are not easy to use. The main carriers are warships or strategic bombers. We don’t have a single strategic bomber,” Skibitsky said.
He stressed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces critically need the ability to strike deep into Russian territory, as Russia has already moved key bases more than 500 km from Ukraine’s borders. Currently, Ukraine can only reach these sites with kamikaze drones carrying up to 5kg of explosives.
“ATACMS can carry up to 500kg of payload and can actually destroy strategic targets. That is why we are negotiating with the United States to lift restrictions on their use,” the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine representative added.
Skibitsky stressed that obtaining long-range missiles such as ATACMS or Tomahawk would allow them to disrupt Russian infrastructure in accordance with NATO standards.
