OpenAI plans to make money on online sales via ChatGPT

OpenAI, the creator of the popular ChatGPT chatbot, is preparing to launch a new business model – it will receive a share of online sales made directly through the AI assistant interface.

According to the Financial Times, citing knowledgeable sources, ChatGPT already displays products with links to online stores, and now the company is working on integrating the checkout function directly into the chatbot. This means that users will be able to complete the purchase without leaving the platform.

According to the plan, OpenAI will receive a commission from merchants who place orders via ChatGPT.

The company also cooperates with the Shopify payment platform, which provides technologies for fast and secure transactions – its integration will be part of the new functionality. Preliminary demos have already been presented to brands, and negotiations on the financial terms of the partnership are ongoing.

This feature is expected to turn ChatGPT into a new generation commercial platform that combines artificial intelligence with online trading.
