Ukrzaliznytsia, a key transport artery of Ukraine, is taking an important step towards energy independence by approving the decision to build dozens of gas generating units with a total capacity of up to 250 MW. This initiative is aimed at overcoming the significant power shortage that the company has been facing in recent months.
The newly created LLC UZ Energo, which will become the operator of the new distributed electricity generation, will provide not only the needs of Ukrzaliznytsia, but also household consumers who depend on a stable supply of electricity and water.
Critical shortage of energy resources
The press service of Ukrzaliznytsia reports that currently the electricity consumption limits cover only 75% of the company’s real needs. With the approach of the autumn-winter period, this shortage may become even more noticeable, threatening the smooth operation of the railway and communal services for the population.
The chairman of the board of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia Yevhen Lyashchenko emphasized the urgency of the project, noting that the company is already conducting active negotiations with suppliers and international financial organizations for the rapid implementation of construction.
A new energy approach
According to the requirements of Ukrainian legislation, electricity production using gas generators can only be carried out by a separate legal entity, separated from the distribution system operator. Thus, UZ Energo will have full autonomy in its activities, which will ensure the efficiency and transparency of new energy projects.
This step is important not only for Ukrzaliznytsia, but also for the entire country, because a stable energy supply is the basis for the development of the economy and ensuring the comfort of citizens. The decision to build gas generating plants demonstrates Ukraine’s desire for energy independence and readiness to invest in the future.
