Over the weekend, several US military bases across Europe were placed on high alert.

Security levels were raised to level two, known as “Charlie,” indicating a significant threat of a terrorist attack targeting American military personnel or facilities.

According to CNN, citing informed military sources who wished to remain anonymous, such a level of threat has not been seen at European facilities for at least the past 10 years. Sources note that the “Charlie” level typically signifies reliable intelligence about an actively planned terrorist attack.

Among the facilities that raised their security level to “Charlie” is the US Army garrison in Stuttgart, Germany, which houses the headquarters of the US European Command (USEUCOM).

A US European Command representative, Commander Dan Day, declined to comment on specifics but stated that USEUCOM continuously monitors the security environment to ensure the safety of its personnel and their families. He also recommended that personnel at US military facilities in Europe remain vigilant and be prepared for any unforeseen situations.
