In light of a possible exchange deal between Israel and Hamas, it is expected that Hezbollah will temporarily cease fire on the northern border. However, according to Ynet military analyst Ron Ben-Yishai, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah will not agree to disarm his organization in southern Lebanon or withdraw the Radwan special forces deeper into the country. This means that a new IDF military operation may be necessary in a few months.

In recent days, senior Israeli officials have repeatedly emphasized the need for a political resolution to the conflict with Hezbollah and Lebanon. However, there is no confidence within the country’s military and political leadership that Nasrallah will accept all the terms of the deal, including Israel’s security requirements.

Negotiators from the Biden administration, particularly special envoy Amos Hochstein, propose turning southern Lebanon into a weapons-free zone. This would involve moving Hezbollah’s special forces at least 10 kilometers from the border in exchange for adjustments to the border line from Israel.

Nevertheless, Israeli sources doubt that Nasrallah and his supporters will accept Hochstein’s proposal. In this case, the need for military action to eliminate the threat at the border will arise again in a few months.

During this period, the IDF plans to secure the support of the US and the international community for continued combat operations, as well as to stockpile the necessary weapons and ammunition for a possible war in Lebanon.
