Desecration of graves at two historic Jewish cemeteries in Cincinnati, Ohio has been condemned, and the search for vandals responsible for these acts has begun. The FBI is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information regarding events at the Tiferet Israel and Beit Ha-Midrash Ha-Gadol cemeteries, where 176 tombstones dating back to the 1800s were overturned and damaged.

Local Jewish organizations and cemetery representatives have labeled these events as antisemitic acts. Local law enforcement has closed the crime scene during the investigation, complicating the identification and notification of relatives.

According to Sue Sasskind, Executive Director of the Greater Cincinnati Jewish Cemeteries, such crimes are federal offenses, prompting FBI involvement in the investigation. Organizations have started fundraising efforts to repair the damaged tombstones.

This is not the first instance of antisemitism targeting Jewish cemeteries on Cincinnati’s historic west side.
