In a bold move, YouTube has blocked the accounts of several prominent Russian performers who have openly supported Russia’s war against Ukraine. This significant action affects artists such as Shaman, Grigory Leps, Polina Gagarina, Oleg Gazmanov, and Yulia Chicherina, as reported by Lithuanian media outlet LRT.

The blocking of these accounts is a major blow to the Russian propaganda machine. While fans can still find their music on other accounts, the official channels on YouTube are no longer accessible. The Lithuanian Radio and Television Commission (LRTK) played a crucial role by appealing to Google and YouTube to remove the accounts of artists who have been added to the European sanctions list due to their support for the war in Ukraine.

Radio Free Europe also confirmed the blocking of these accounts, highlighting that it resulted from the restrictive measures imposed on Russian performers by the US and the European Union as part of the 14th sanctions package. These sanctions are part of a global effort to limit the influence of Russian propaganda and uphold the international stance against the war in Ukraine.

This move underscores the growing determination of the international community to counter Russian aggression not only on the battlefield but also in the information sphere. Fans of these performers will now have to search elsewhere for their content, significantly diminishing their reach and influence.
