Kidnappers demanded a ransom from the family of a 74-year-old woman in exchange for her release, threatening to kill her if their demands were not met. The relatives of the Eilat resident contacted the police after receiving messages indicating that she had been kidnapped. It was discovered that she had left her home and had not arrived at her intended destination.
This was reported by the police press service.
The kidnappers demanded a ransom for the elderly woman’s release and advised against contacting the police to avoid endangering her life. However, the police quickly located the pensioner in an apartment in Petah Tikva, where she was being held. The apartment’s owner, also an elderly man around 70 years old, was detained for questioning.
Over the past few months, the elderly woman had repeatedly withdrawn large sums of cash from her personal account and handed them over to several suspicious fraudsters posing as security service employees.
The perpetrators convinced the victim that her financial security and life were in danger, claiming that the only way to help was to give them cash, as they supposedly had the necessary authority. Investigators urge other victims of similar scams to contact the police immediately.
